En route pour le parc national Yellowstone- le 21, 22, 23 et 24 août 2012 En route to the Yellowstone national park the 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th of August 2012

Nous entrons aux Etats-Unis et ils vérifient le motorisé aux douanes. Tout est bien. Nous arrêtons visiter le barrage Grand Coulee. C’est le plus gros barrage hydro-électrique en Amérique du Nord. Dans la soirée, on voit un spectacle de lumières sur l’eau qui descend sur le barrage. C’est très beau. À Iowa, nous conduisons autour du gros lac « le Lac d’Alene ». C’est très beau et grand. Les bateaux, les marinas et les maisons sont immenses. Ensuite, nous passons quelques jours à Missoula, Montana pour visiter. Nous visitons le « Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge » et le « National Bison Range » Ici, on circule en auto, pour voir des bisons circuler librement. Avant d’arriver au parc Yellowstone, on arrête pour visiter Virginia City, Montana. C’est une ville de la ruée vers l’or, genre Western. Nous avons voyagé 1287 km pendant ces quatre jours.

We enter the United States and they check the Rv at customs for fruits and vegetables and we don't have any so all is well. We stop to visit the Grand Coulee Dam. It is the largest hydroelectric dam in North America. In the evening we see a light show on the water that falls over the dam. It is very beautiful. In Iowa, we drive around the big lake 'Lake d'Alene. "It's very beautiful and big. The boats, marinas and houses are immense. Then we spend a few days in Missoula, Montana to visit. We visit the "Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge" and "National Bison Range" Here we travel by car, to see bison in field next to the car. Before arriving at Yellowstone Park, we stop to visit Virginia City, Montana. It is a city of the Gold Rush, Western genre. We traveled 1287 km during these four days.

Des belles journées à Penticton BC- le 19 et 20 août 2012 Warm days in Penticton BC on the 19th and 20th of August 2012

Il fait très beau et très chaud. Les paysages sont superbes. On suit la rivière Thompson, et on voit des beaux lacs. Nous passons dans Kamloop et Kelowna, et nous nous arrêtons à Penticton. Il y a beaucoup de gens sur les plages et aussi, il y a des gens qui se laissent flotter sur des matelas soufflés dans un canal d’eau. C’est un canal entre le lac Okanagan et le lac Skaha. Nous décidons de camper ici. Il y a une piscine, une plage et ce canal, on va se reposer. Nous faisons tous les trois. On loue un tube, on se laisse flotter et ensuite un autobus nous retourne au début, près de l’auto. Il y a même des canards qui nagent avec nous. C’est très amusant et on a deux belles journées. Nous avons voyagé 335km.

It is very beautiful and very warm. The scenery is superb. We follow the Thompson River and we see beautiful lakes. We go by Kamloop and Kelowna, and we stop in Penticton. There are many people on the beaches and also there are people who let themselves float on large air mattress in a water channel. It is a channel between Okanagan Lake and Skaha Lake. We decide to camp here. There is a pool, a beach and this channel, we will rest here and we all try all three. We rented a tube and let ourself float and a bus then returns us to the beginning, near the car. There are even ducks swimming with us. It's great fun and have some nice 2 days. We traveled 335km.

Nous avons que de la belle température, et c’est même très chaud. Le chemin est beau et on passe dans plusieurs petites villes et villages. Nous avons trouvé des campings avec une piscine. En chemin, on vu une énorme ligne à pêche pour la pêche à la mouche au Houston's Steelhead Park au BC. À Williams Lake, il y avait un superbe centre touristique fait en bois rond. Il était immense. L’extérieur et l’intérieur sont SUPERBES. Nous sommes aussi allés visiter Hell’s Gate, près de Hope, en auto. Là, nous sommes allés sur une gondole qui traverse au dessus de la rivière Fraser. Nous avons aussi marché sur un pont suspendu, avec un plancher de grille de métal où on pouvait voir la rivière circuler sous nos pieds. En chemin, on voit des trains sur les deux côtés des rivières Fraser et Thompson. Cache Creek a un climat désertique, et il y a même des serpents à sonnette. Les montagnes sont couvertes de sable.

We have more good weather, and it's very hot. The roads are beautiful and we pass several small towns and villages. We found campsites with a swimming pool. Along the way, we saw a huge fly fishing rod at Houston's Steelhead Park in BC. At Williams Lake, there was a great tourist center made of logs. It was immense. The exterior and interior are SUPERB. We also went to Hell's Gate, near Hope by car. There, we went on a gondola that crosses above the Fraser River. We also walked a suspension bridge with a metal grid floor where we could see the river flowing under our feet. Along the way we see trains on both sides of the Fraser and Thompson rivers. Cache Creek has a desert climate, and there are even rattlesnakes. The mountains are covered with sand.

Nous partons de Haines Junction et arrêtons à Whitehorse pour faire des épiceries et acheter du gaz. Nous pouvons maintenant dire que nous avons voyagé et terminé toute la route de l’Alaska Highway. Nous continuons jusqu’à Watson Lake et prenons la route qui descend sur la côte ouest de la Colombie-Britannique, le Cassiar Highway (route 37), en direction de Stewart. C’est une route affreuse, en construction avec beaucoup de graviers. Le lendemain matin, on s’aperçoit que le pare-brise du RV et aussi de l’auto, on chacun été frappé par une roche. Il y a une fissure sur chacun. Nous sommes allés à Hyder, Alaska pour essayer de voir des ours manger du saumon. Ronald a vu un petit ourson noir et on a vu beaucoup de saumons et un beau glacier. Nous sommes allés à Prince Rupert. C’est un port de mer ouvert à l’année longue. Là, on a vu beaucoup de totems, et une mère chevreuil avec son faon sur le gazon de la cour de justice au centre-ville. Pendant ces quatre jours, nous avons voyagé 1679 km.

We leave from Haines Junction and stop at Whitehorse to buy groceries and gas. We can now say that we have traveled and done the whole Alaska Highway. We continue to Watson Lake and take the road down the west coast of British Columbia, the Cassiar Highway (Highway 37) in the direction of Stewart. This is a terrible road under construction with lots of gravel. The next morning, we see that the windshield of the RV and the car, each was hit by a rock. There is a crack on each one. We went to Hyder, Alaska to try to see bears eating salmon. Ronald saw a little black bear cub and we saw a lot of salmon and a beautiful glacier. We went to Prince Rupert. It is an open sea port year-round. There, we saw a lot of totems and a mother deer with her fawn on the grass of the court in the city center. During these four days, we traveled 1679 km.

En route pour Haines, Alaska- le vendredi et samedi, 10 et 11 août 2012 En route to Haines Alaska Friday and Saturday August 10th and 11th 2012

Vendredi, nous partons de Tok, Alaska. Il fait très beau. Aujourd’hui, nous entrons au Canada. Une bonne partie du chemin n’est pas en bonne condition et le paysage n’est pas fantastique. Mais arrivé près du lac Kluane, au Yukon, tout a changé. Le paysage, le lac et les montagnes de la chaine de montagnes St-Elias sont spectaculaires. Aussi, on a vu une mère grizzly et ses deux oursons blonds passés devant nous. On a pris plusieurs photos de tout ça. On a voyagé 473 km ce jour là. On arrête pour coucher à Haines Junction. Ensuite, samedi, on décide d’aller à Haines, Alaska. Pour se rendre, on doit voyager au Yukon, en Colombie-Britannique et passer à la douane, pour l’Alaska. On fait un voyage de 8 heures trente minutes et 500 km. Le paysage est fantastique, il y a des belles montagnes, des beaux lacs et des belles chutes « Million Dollar Falls ». En revenant, on a eu la chance de voir une autre mère grizzly et ses deux oursons : un est blond/brun et l’autre est tout noir. Il s’est monté sur ses pattes arrière. On a aussi vu un ours sculpté dans du granite blanc. Quelle belle journée!

Friday, we are on our way from Tok, Alaska with lovely weather. Today, we enter Canada. Much of the road is not in good condition and the landscape is not fantastic. But come near Kluane Lake, Yukon, everything changed. The scenery, the lakes and the St. Elias mountains are spectacular. Also, we saw a grizzly mother and her two blond cubs passed in front of us. We took several pictures of it. We traveled 473 km that day. We stop to sleep in Haines Junction. Then Saturday, we decided to go to Haines, Alaska. To get there, one has to travel to the Yukon, British Columbia and clear the US customs to Alaska. We traveled for 8 hour and 30 minutes and 500 km. The scenery is fantastic, there are beautiful mountains, beautiful lakes and beautiful waterfalls "Million Dollar Falls". Coming back, we had the chance to see another mother grizzly and her two cubs: one is blond / brown and the other is black. It looked at us mounted on its hind legs. We also saw a bear carved from white granite. What a beautiful day!

Le chemin entre Fairbanks et Tok est plat et un peu ennuyeux. On s’arrête à Delta Junction. C’est ici que la construction du Alaska Highway c’est arrêté en 1942. De là, il y existait déjà un chemin pour aller à Fairbanks et un autre pour aller à Anchorage et Valdez. On prend une photo au « Last Milepost ». On continue notre chemin et on s’arrête à Tok au même terrain de camping. On a fait 339 kms aujourd’hui.

The road between Fairbanks and Tok is flat and a bit boring. We stop at Delta Junction. It is here that the construction of the Alaska Highway stopped in 1942. From there, there was already a road to go to Fairbanks and another to go to Anchorage and Valdez. We take a picture at the "Last Milepost". We continue on our way and we stop in Tok at the same campground that we stopped on our way into Alaska. We did 339 kms today.

Le Cercle Arctique- le mercredi 8 août 2012 The Arctic-Circle Wednesday, August 8, 2012

Aujourd’hui nous partons à 5 :45 du matin pour aller en voyage d’autobus jusqu’au Cercle Arctique sur le Dalton Highway. Le Cercle Arctique est situé au 66e parallèle. Nous sommes 18 dans un gros autobus. En générale, les routes sont assez belles avec des bouts en gravier. On a la chance de voir et de s’approcher du grand pipeline d’huile d’Alaska. En chemin, nous arrêtons à un magasin général de Joy, on marche et touche la toundra, le permafrost, et voyons beaucoup de belles scènes de montagnes. Arrivé au Cercle Arctique, notre conducteur sort le tapis rouge et nous donne un gâteau avec du glaçage blanc (mud with permafrost). On nourrit les Grey Jay de nos mains et un petit écureuil. On reçoit un certificat et retournons au camping à 9 :30 pm. C’est une longue mais belle journée.

Today we leave at 5: 45 in the morning to go to the Arctic Circle in a bus for a trip on the Dalton Highway. The Arctic Circle is located at the 66th parallel. We are 18 in a big bus. In general, the roads are quite beautiful with gravel at the ends. We get to see and approach the large Alaskan oil pipeline. Along the way we stopped at the Joy general store, we walk and touch the tundra, the permafrost and see many beautiful scenes of mountains. Arriving at the Arctic Circle, our driver pulls out the red carpet and gives us a cake with white frosting (mud with permafrost). We feed grey jay from our hands and also a small squirrel. We received a certificate and return to the campsite at 9: 30 pm. It's a long but beautiful day.

Fairbanks- le 5, 6 et 7 août 2012 Fairbanks- the 5th, 6th and 7th august 2012

Nous allons à Fairbanks Alaska. Nous voyageons 194 km. Nous nous promenons dans la ville. Nous visitons le Centre culturel Morris Thompson. C’est un très beau centre d’information sur la culture d’Alaska. Il y a un excellent film, avec beaucoup de détails, d’un homme qui a bâtit sa maison de bois rond et qui a vécu le reste de sa vie au Lac Clark dans le Kenai. On a vu une arche construite de panaches d’orignaux et de caribous. Il y a aussi un village de pionniers. Nous avons fait un très beau voyage en bateau, qui fonctionne avec une grosse roue à l’arrière (un Sterwheeler). Pendant ce voyage, on a visité un village d’Athabaska et rencontré un éleveur de chien de course. Ces chiens ont gagné plusieurs courses.

We went to Fairbanks. We travel 194 km. We visited the city by walking in the city. We visited the Morris Thompson Cultural Centre. It is a very beautiful center for information on Alaskan culture. There is an excellent movie, with many details, part of the movie was about a man who built his log home and lived the rest of his life near Lake Clark in Kenai. We saw an arch built of moose antlers and caribou antlers. There is also a pioneer village in town that visited. We made a very nice paddle wheel boat trip (a Sterwheeler). During this trip, we visited an Athabaska village and met a racing dog breeder. These dogs have won several races.
